Walnut, parsley & lemon penne

Walnut, parsley & lemon penne

I made this lovely fresh pasta dish on a recent weekend.  It only requires a few ingredients which most people would have on hand and the flavours pack a punch; lemony, fragrant garlic, fresh herbs, crunchy walnuts, salty parmesan and a bit of heat.

Lemon ricotta pancakes with berry sauce for Pancake Day

Lemon ricotta pancakes with berry sauce for Pancake Day

Whoop it’s that time of year again!  This year I’m offering lemon ricotta pancakes with lush berry sauce for Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day, tomorrow. You can serve these just with unsalted butter, lemon and sugar on their own and they’re amazing; soft, fluffy, lemony/sweet and reminiscent of pancakes your mum might have made.  I[read more…]

Chai spice strawberry crumb cake

Chai spice strawberry crumb cake

So I made a cake a while back.  I am very fond of cake however don’t make them that often because I tend to go overboard and have two pieces in one go.  The spices in this cake are lovely and reminiscent of Chai flavours with fresh strawberries and a crunchy topping. This cake is really nice on its own; fluffy[read more…]

St Patrick’s Day – the green smoothie

St Patrick’s Day – the green smoothie

I had grand ideas of making a chocolate Guinness cake for St Patrick’s Day but ran out of time.  Instead, I thought I’d go off the beaten track and offer this green smoothie I made recently which is such a lovely green colour, it seemed serendipitous, despite being devoid of butter, cream, potatoes or Guinness I’ve[read more…]

Charlotte Rampling

Charlotte Rampling

I’ve always really liked the coolly enigmatic British actress Charlotte Rampling; she’s often in disturbing yet fascinating movies (and I love that, in Britain at least, female actors are still going strong in decent roles as they become older).  Some of her movies I’ve seen lately include: Swimming Pool (trailer below) Never Let Me Go I, Anna[read more…]

Mash; cheese & garlic and spicy sweet potato

Mash; cheese & garlic and spicy sweet potato

I adore mashed potato and of course, mashed sweet potato is delicious; fluffy, sweet and warm.  When I was teeny tiny, some days, it’s all I’d eat.  I prefer to leave the skins on my white potatoes (it’s healthier and you can’t tell the difference – use organic if you prefer) and after years of using any[read more…]

Watercolour effect (Maverick & FotoSketcher)

Watercolour effect (Maverick & FotoSketcher)

I’ve been suffering from app envy lately. Let me just say, I have no desire to own an iPhone (or any kind of smart phone) ever, and love to make my own simple filters in Photoshop although ….. I do occasionally get jealous of some of the filters smart phone folks get to use.  I spotted the watercolour effect recently which I immediately[read more…]

Swedish meatballs

Swedish meatballs

I don’t know how Swedish these actually are so if anybody from Sweden is reading, apologies!  They are, though, creamy and flavourful and pretty easy to make however I will say, you need to use a non-stick pan to sauté meatballs (I always forget and they stick like crazy).  You could use any type of[read more…]
