Citrus vodka cocktail

Citrus vodka cocktail

I haven’t made cocktails in absolutely ages I realised the other day.  So I bought a heap of grapefruit and oranges and whipped up a fresh, zesty, ruby grapefruit orange cocktail packed with citrus flavour.  And you could make this with any other white spirits; Bacardi or gin for example.

Cocktail Fridays: French martini

Cocktail Fridays: French martini

These are a great little drop.  I originally made them as per the recipe, as in a bit stronger at 45mls voddie for each drink and with a lot less pineapple juice, but I was like, ok I’m drunk! after only a couple of sips so responsibly lessened the amount to a shot each and more juice.  They are[read more…]

Cocktail Fridays: vintage champagne cocktail

Cocktail Fridays: vintage champagne cocktail

We had these on New Year’s (revisiting a cocktail recipe from a few year’s back).  Just add a splash of Limoncello to a champagne glass, top with whichever sparkly you like and add a glace cherry. Happy Friday!

Cocktail Fridays: the Old Fashioned

Cocktail Fridays: the Old Fashioned

Blimey these are strong (they’re way more than a standard drink so be warned) though I felt so Mad Men and glamorous drinking one of these prohibition era cocktails – I don’t know how Don drinks them on the regular though, no wonder he’s drunk all the time!  And I’m the only one I know who loves those glace cherries[read more…]

Spiced creamy iced coffee

Spiced creamy iced coffee

Blimey it’s hot here at the moment!  So over Christmas I made some lovely iced coffee with spices and cream.  I’ve always wanted to try coffee with cream from watching American movies and TV where they often ask for cream in their cups of coffee (it always sounds so lovely!).  Anyway, it tastes wonderful but not necessarily[read more…]

Lemon drop champagne punch

Lemon drop champagne punch

I love this lemony, fresh and sparkly cocktail; perfect for an aperitif (before dinner drink) around Christmas time. (Limoncello is a really lovely, intensely lemon flavoured liqueur which is great in cocktails (obv.), champagne or even baking and trifles)

Cocktail Fridays: strawberry iced tea (non-alcoholic)

Cocktail Fridays: strawberry iced tea (non-alcoholic)

Iced tea is so lovely; for those super hot days when even I, a hard-core tea drinker can’t handle hot tea, it’s a refreshing drink to keep chilled in the fridge.  I prefer mine only slightly sweetened but to enhance the strawberry flavour you do need at least a teaspoon per serving.

Cocktail Fridays: Kahlua milkshake

Cocktail Fridays: Kahlua milkshake

Guys, this is so good!  It doesn’t even taste like there’s alcohol in it (haha, probably a bad thing I guess) and it’s so full of creamy, luscious coffee flavour, more like a fancy iced coffee.  I used full fat ingredients but have an idea this would be just as good with lower fat. Happy[read more…]

Cocktail Fridays: the apple bourbon

Cocktail Fridays: the apple bourbon

When I told Ant I was going to make a cocktail with bourbon and Appletiser he wasn’t that keen …. “does Appletiser go with bourbon?” he asked sort of sceptically.  I said, oh come on, you know you’re going to drink it (he loves my new cocktail Fridays thing because I experiment with the actual cocktails[read more…]

Cocktail Fridays: watermelon, strawberry & vodka slushies

Cocktail Fridays: watermelon, strawberry & vodka slushies

Remember slushies on a hot day at the beach from the 7-Eleven?  Well these are so much better! For one thing, they’re made with real, fresh, summer fruit and for another, well they have a shot of vodka in them.  They’re great for having people over and were fun and sparkly on a hot day a[read more…]

Cocktail Fridays: lime tropical punch (non-alcoholic)

Cocktail Fridays: lime tropical punch (non-alcoholic)

Punch always reminds me of kids’ parties growing up and I still love it!  I made this punch with sweet, classic juices like pineapple, apple and cranberry but added mint and lime juice to make it a bit less sweet for an adult palate. Happy Friday.

Cocktail Fridays: the strawberry Limoncello

Cocktail Fridays: the strawberry Limoncello

I’ve decided to start a fresh new thing on this here blog: a new cocktail, either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, for Friday night drinks!  I probably won’t be able to commit to a post every Friday but I’ll give it a go hey?  I might add in a snack suggestion every now and again too. This lovely little number[read more…]

St Patrick’s Day – the green smoothie

St Patrick’s Day – the green smoothie

I had grand ideas of making a chocolate Guinness cake for St Patrick’s Day but ran out of time.  Instead, I thought I’d go off the beaten track and offer this green smoothie I made recently which is such a lovely green colour, it seemed serendipitous, despite being devoid of butter, cream, potatoes or Guinness I’ve[read more…]

Italian peanut butter hot chocolate

Italian peanut butter hot chocolate

We in Australia can become a bit gloomy about our hot Christmases.  Don’t get me wrong, Christmas is lovely and all that but we miss out on all that cosy, frosty stuff.  And if I see one more ad with Santa surfing or wearing board shorts .. So I thought I’d pretend we’re having a snowy Christmas[read more…]

Fruit martini with cherries

Fruit martini with cherries

So here’s a festive little drink using pear flavoured vodka I made last Christmas (eep, a bit late posting); the cherries are gorgeous soaked in the cocktail then eaten, so decadent.  And I know it’s not really a martini … devotees of traditional martinis would be scandalised no doubt, however I can’t handle the real deal, a bit lame I know.[read more…]

Nutella hot chocolate

Nutella hot chocolate

Some days I feel like chocolate I just have a few squares of a plain, dark block with my coffee then there are days when I want comforting, creamy, sweet chocolate – it was the latter which inspired today’s post.  I spotted a recipe a while back for Nutella hot chocolate and thought I’d give it a go[read more…]

Avocado almond smoothie

Avocado almond smoothie

A wholesome, full-of-good-fats, restorative smoothie so delightfully creamy it doesn’t even taste healthy. If you feel you need some healthy, heart starting goodness after the debauchery of Christmas and New Years, this is just the thing.

Pink champagne cocktails

Pink champagne cocktails

Champagne cocktails are so 60s and glamorous and I love them so I made some girly drinks for Christmas which were pretty and tasted lovely.  A bit too much actually, they’re really quite intoxicating so you’ve been warned.  Champagne is kind of naughty like that – all bubbly and innocent then bam! I thought I’d go sparkly pink[read more…]

a walk and some Pimm’s

a walk and some Pimm’s

If you haven’t tried this refreshing, very English drink, you really should. One cool but bright Sunday afternoon we went for a walk in the Spring sunshine, enjoying the heat on our skin … Then we had Pimm’s and Limonata, picking strawberries out of the glass afterwards.  Just perfect.

Grapefruit and gin cocktails and a trip back to the 70s

Grapefruit and gin cocktails and a trip back to the 70s

I’m dedicating this post to one of my favourite eras, the 1970s, I guess because well, I was there but I wasn’t there (too tiny to appreciate it) … a time in history in amongst the idealism of the 60s and the materialism of the 80s. Back in the 70s, people … Drank a classic cocktail: Grapefruit[read more…]

Fancy a cuppa? How to make homemade Chai latte

Fancy a cuppa? How to make homemade Chai latte

I started drinking Chai tea a few years back.  Being a tea and spice lover, I instantly appreciated it’s spicy, comforting, warming flavour and it became one of my favourite teas. I’d love to say this is a traditional recipe and I’ve certainly done my best coming up with some lovely flavours, however there are[read more…]

Strawberry, chocolate and peanut butter smoothie

Strawberry, chocolate and peanut butter smoothie

I received this in the mail the other day and couldn’t wait to try something out of it.  I felt it was time for a healthy breakfast after the sugar fueled, indulgent days I’d been having and let me tell you, everything in this is good for you and, like Sophie says, has a very milkshake appeal about it.[read more…]
