Lou Reed’s Perfect Day

Lou Reed’s Perfect Day

Not such a perfect day then. In honour of Lou’s passing, I thought I’d play one of my favourite songs.     Image via: fashiongrunge

Some music for today – A Real Hero by Electric Youth

Some music for today – A Real Hero by Electric Youth

I love this dreamy, 80s inspired song (theme song for the movie Drive), written by College and vocals by Toronto based twosome Electric Youth.  Yay, happy Friday!   Top image via: yeti music Lower image belongs to me

Sharehouse posters from my youth

Sharehouse posters from my youth

I’m starting to feel a bit gloomy about the recent trend of bagging the 90s (hey, it was the last iconic era and it ruled ok?!  Get back to me in 10-20 years’ time and tell me if any of us even vaguely remember any music or movies from the last decade), anyway … posters from your sharehouse past is quite funny and spot-on. [read more…]

Regina Spektor – you’ve got time

Regina Spektor – you’ve got time

I love this cool, catchy tune by Regina, original theme song for the new(ish) show Orange is the New Black.  Have a great weekend! Image via: Milkshakes

Some music for today: Haim’s Falling

Some music for today: Haim’s Falling

I heard the song Falling by Californian band Haim recently, comprising of three sisters, Alana, Este and Danielle with drummer, Tim.  Falling will feature on their upcoming debut album which will be released in the US summer. The song is so pretty with such a relaxed, youthful sound you can’t help but be drawn in.[read more…]

Stylish hair I covet

Stylish hair I covet

Hair defines a generation doesn’t it?  It can also mean the difference between pretty and knock out gorgeous. Here are some ladies whose hair styles I love, all of which seem to stand the test of time and with, let’s face it, a bit of a crush now actually. Some music for today: Half Moon Run – Full Circle

I found this song clip recently by Canadian indie band, Half Moon Run via one of my regular reads, the enchanting space Wonderings & Wanderings. I like it a lot.   Image via Video belongs to: Half Moon Run

Some music for today – Metric’s Breathing Underwater

Some music for today – Metric’s Breathing Underwater

I seem to be in a musical mood lately.  I heard this song by Canadian Indie band Metric from their album Synthetica on the radio a while back and thought it was lovely; lead singer Emily Haines’ pretty, sweet voice with sort of bubbly, shiny music and cool lyrics.  I love it. Happy Thursday (bom bom)

Happy Thursday (bom bom)

I saw this clip by Sam and the Womp a while back.  I thought the song with it’s bouncy, cheerful animation was really charming and funny and it made me laugh (I think this comes under the category of music which doesn’t take itself too seriously and we need that). Have a beautiful rest of the week! Via

Get down tonight

Get down tonight

Happy Friday. Can you believe these sexy 1970s uniforms for Southwest Airlines flight attendants?  Such a different world back then.  I kind of like them but then I’ve always said the 70s is one of my favourite eras (along with the 1920s but that’s a whole different post). Here’s a funky song to take you into the[read more…]

Some music for today: Kelli Scarr’s Anything

Some music for today: Kelli Scarr’s Anything

I spotted this artist via eatpress, who thoughtfully offer music with their lovely recipes. Kelli’s sweet, sunny, yet slightly melancholy voice makes me think of Sundays and university and trips to the beach.  Have a listen to her here:

Grapefruit and gin cocktails and a trip back to the 70s

Grapefruit and gin cocktails and a trip back to the 70s

I’m dedicating this post to one of my favourite eras, the 1970s, I guess because well, I was there but I wasn’t there (too tiny to appreciate it) … a time in history in amongst the idealism of the 60s and the materialism of the 80s. Back in the 70s, people … Drank a classic cocktail: Grapefruit[read more…]

A recipe for Thai green chicken curry and a look back at the 90s

A recipe for Thai green chicken curry and a look back at the 90s

Oh yeah the 90s. The time I went to uni, backpacked overseas to the US, London and Europe, shared old Queenslanders with countless housemates, partied like it was 1999 and was part of the 18-25 demographic. In the 90s People were eating: Thai food was the food to eat out in Australia.  In honour of the[read more…]

Some music for today – Australian band Pond

Some music for today – Australian band Pond

Was having a wander over at Stereogum and found this song by psychadelic band Pond, Sunlight Cardigan.  It’s very 70s and kind of upbeat in a mellow way (think David Bowie or Elton John around that time).  I liked it a lot. Have a listen Album cover from: Stereogum

A band to watch out for – Warpaint

A band to watch out for – Warpaint

I was driving on the weekend, listening to the radio and heard this beautiful bewitching song “Undertow” which just drew me in.  I hadn’t heard it before but it was raining and a bit gloomy and the song went perfectly with the day. Sometimes the perfect song comes on the radio while I’m in my car and I could just[read more…]
