Happy Friday (and are cronuts the new macarons?)

I’m a bit behind on hipster foodie trends so have only just recently heard of the cronut, a hybrid between a croissant and donut which is taking New York City by storm.  This has me a bit puzzled to be honest, I mean I never really got behind the macaron thing, as pretty as they are, and now people are lining up in Soho, New York for one of these flaky little iced donut things, some with creamy fillings.  So popular are they, a black market has been created …. really?!  Scandalous!  It’s almost like prohibition all over again.

Crazy times (that said, I wouldn’t knock one back if offered because they’re pastry after all and I am partial to croissants).

  1. Hey Emma, I haven’t tried one (yet) either. I’m not sure you can improve on the perfection that is a beautifully made croissant, but I wouldn’t kick a cronut out of bed 🙂

  2. I just learned about cronuts and feel like reading about them left my eyes scalded 😉 The sacrilege! (I’m a croissant purist, though). 🙂

  3. I was just reading about the cronut this morning! I have to admit, I’ve been kind of ignoring all the hype about it for quite a bit at this point. But for some reason, I finally decided to look into this cronut mystique today. Needless to say, now I’ve added Dominque Ansel Bakery on my list of “to go to” places as soon as I can get into the city at the crazy early time necessary to secure one of these mystical creatures.
